Do you think people "learn something" when they work with games?

Yesterday I was having a conversation with my father, he told me that all these people that are currently "working" with video games, actually, don't have a real job

This made me think, working with play to earn games is considered as a new contemporany job, where people can have fun and work at the same time, but old people think that you don't gain any kind of important experience by doing this, and that doesn't prepare you for "the real life"

What do you think about this kind of thinking?
